Monoprice Prusa i3 Mounting System
thingiverse
I decided to purchase Monoprice's Prusa i3 clone, a great system, by the way, and immediately disliked the fact that the control box is permanently attached to the printer (seriously, how difficult would it be to add connectors). I considered various solutions, including splicing plugs into the wiring harness (which would void my warranty) or finding ways to secure the control box to the printer. It occurred to me that simply mounting the printer and control box to a piece of plywood would resolve the issue. So, I designed the hardware to accomplish this, which includes: feet for the plywood to prevent it from scratching the table; ergonomic handles for easier lifting; corner stops to limit the lateral movement of the control box; a strap to secure the control box to the plywood; and straps to secure the printer to the plywood (print two, then place them in opposing corners to balance x/y/z forces). With my setup, I printed four of one type, two of another, two of a third, one of a fourth, and two of a fifth. You can view my photos for details on how I assembled it. This configuration should work with other Prusa i3 clones, such as the Wanhao and others. If my parts don't fit your setup perfectly, some are generic and could still be useful (handles, feet, and corner stops). However, you can likely adapt most of this to your system by making x/y/z adjustments in your printing software. Something to keep in mind when installing these parts is that using washers will make it easier on them. I designed all of this in 123D Design, and I hope you guys enjoy!
