This is an easy mod to use any 3.5mm jack cable with your monoprice modern retro. No different screws required. This maintains a factory look, only the cup protrudes about 8mm more. This also gets rid of the annoying rattle from the original cable. I have noticed that there are two different versions of this headphone, mine is the newest i believe but it should work with both, just check fitment before cutting any wires. If you are interested, these are the pads that i use size 110mm: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32967593057.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dvpBTPZ Do this mod at your own risk, i am not responsible for any malfunction after doing this! parts and tools required: - 3.5mm female socket https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32833525182.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dCThZd6 - soldering iron and solder - small Phillips screwdriver - wire cutter - multimeter (optional) Instructions: - Print with the hollow side down - Peel off the sticker on the side of the cup with the wire. - Undo the 3 screws. - Cut the wire, leave enough length. - Solder the wires on the socket like in the picture, these wires have a non conductive coating instead of a plastic insulation so hold the tin on it for long enough so good contact is made. - Optionally double check with a multimeter if no short was made. These should measure about 30 ohm between first and last contact and second and last contact and 60 ohm between the first and second contact (going from tip to wire) - Screw the socket in the part and screw it back on the headphone, if you have difficulty to poke the screws through the holes sand them bigger. - Put the sticker back on.
