To turn your design into a usable object in Tinkercad, try making it in Inkscape first. Choose Object-->Object to Path and save as plain SVG. **The Key Step**: Open the saved SVG file in a text editor and change the version from 1.1 to 1.0. This will allow you to import it into Tinkercad successfully. At least, it worked for me.
