Monoprice Mini Spool Holder MK5
thingiverse
After trying multiple spoolholders designed for the mini, I was unsatisfied with each one due to various reasons. So, I decided to create my own by combining elements from two existing designs that I liked. The concept behind Monoprice Mini Spool Holder by heavynets was appealing - it allowed for a smooth filament flow and easy spool loading. However, the drag and squeaking issues with the design made me look elsewhere. I considered wrapping the arm in teflon tape to reduce friction, but then I stumbled upon Monoprice MP Select Mini BB Spool Holder by o13102, which had its own set of drawbacks. The original design required a right-angle turn for the filament, which wasn't ideal for my setup. To address this, I took the arm from heavynets' design and replaced it with the arm portion from o13102's design. I made a few adjustments to accommodate Hatchbox spools by stretching the bearings slightly. The result has been a significant improvement in performance. If you decide to build this spoolholder, be prepared to tweak the stock arm by bending the tab back slightly to eliminate excess lean. Don't forget to add two 608zz skate bearings to complete the assembly.
