A 40mm fan shroud upgrade for my mini has been in the works. Printing only in PLA, I aim to enhance airflow around parts with each iteration. Currently using the R01 design as it fits perfectly, but haven't had time to fully test its improvement over stock. The R01 design doesn't provide sufficient cooling airflow due to excessive restriction. Using tape to modify the hotend cooling area improved results slightly, yet still falls short of the original performance. The design will be reworked and posted once complete. R02 offers better flow restriction on the heatsink but unfortunately requires a step back in printing ease. A cheap replacement nozzle, about 2mm longer than standard, is currently being used. UPDATE: R03 has been improved for those who want to run a full-time hotend fan (30mm) and separate print cooling fan (40mm). It will print upright on the 40mm fan mount with minimal supports required. The source Solidworks files are included for modification purposes. Print settings: Printer: Monoprice Mini Select Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.3 Infill: 50% Notes: Designed to be solid at 3-4 perimeters with a 0.4 mm nozzle, requires support. This project marks the first use of Solidworks Flow Simulation to optimize air flow and balance heat brake cooling restrictions alongside nozzle limitations.
