8/14/18 I've made some upgrades to the spool holder, raising its position and adding a central piece that bolsters the top while guiding the filament downward. The middle piece fits extremely snugly to prevent any movement. 8/3/18 After using this setup for two weeks, I've noticed it needs further refinement. It works great most of the time, but one of my rolls is quite finicky and the filament tends to jump off frequently, especially when printing larger objects. To address these issues, I'm updating the top pieces to make them taller and more effective at guiding the filament straight down. 7/16/18 I've updated all the files with improved fit-ups for the bottom and top brackets. The rod is now comprised of two threaded parts instead of one due to space constraints in my printer's print envelope. I'm also working on designing a sleeve for 30mm ID rolls, as well as possibly other sizes. 7/15/18 This spool holder was designed specifically for my Monoprice Ultimate printer. The original setup required me to reach behind the printer every time I swapped out colors, which became quite annoying. This solution keeps the filament right where I need it and also alleviates some of the strain on the extruder, as the filament is gravity-fed. I'm currently printing the final pieces for this design and will test it over the next couple of days. If any modifications are made to the design, I'll update the files accordingly. I'll also take actual photos once I'm satisfied with the results. Everything in this setup can be printed on a Monoprice Maker Ultimate and can fit within one print job.
