After a year, my printer started to develop z-wobble. The two rods are pressed in pretty tight in the top, the bottom barely grabs them at the bottom (and there's a huge gap that is 35mm tall). By printing a pair of these spacers, it really locks in the rods tight on the bottom. Ignore the bearings in my photo. I happened to have some 10mm x 26mm x 8mm bearings lying around so I opted to make my bosses a little shorter and use bearings as a solid support. As far as getting the z-axis out, unscrew the top and bottom, unplug the z-motor underneath. Then I recommend taking off all three outer plastic panels off, removing all the screws for the base platform except the very front (so you can tilt the platform back), then you should be able to slide it out. Also remember to disconnect the 2 connectors from the pcb on the platform. One other thing I recommend is to TAKE OUT the bearing at the top of the z-axis. I believe that if there is any out of round in the thread, it will translate that into the print. The 2 rods should be defining position, not the motor. If you look at Prusa i3, the posts are fixed strong, but the z-axis motors sort of float.
