Monk Mayfair, a chemist with an ape-like physique and Doc Savage's trusted associate, would throw back his head and let out a thunderous roar of exhilaration before charging into battle. His normal voice was childlike and high-pitched, but whenever danger threatened, he sounded like a raging bull, fighting with unbridled ferocity. Above all else, Monk loved two things: danger and beautiful, daring women. But even more than these, he delighted in tormenting his friend Ham Brooks, who would eventually be the subject of further exploration.
