Monitor Steam Engine Doubled Up

Shortly after starting the serial by Vince Cutajar on building the USS Monitor engine, MEWS was thrilled to receive these detailed drawings from Julius de Waal. They depict a double-sized version of the engine that can be crafted from bar stock, resulting in a significantly higher amount of swarf production. Based on a 760mm (nearly 30 inches) long foundation, this massive model showcases impressive engineering feats. As a working replica, rotating the flywheel or crankshaft will reveal the reciprocating motion of key components such as the piston, spindle valve, rocker shaft, and connecting rod.
