To obtain a webcam for your desktop without spending money, you can utilize an old laptop with an inbuilt webcam. Typically, these cameras use USB connections, so all you need to do is splice a USB cable onto the board. Once you have confirmed that the webcam's printed circuit board (PCB) is USB-compatible (look for four wires: red, green, black, and white), cut off a USB cable and solder wires of matching colors. Plug it in to test if it works; if necessary, try swapping wires if it doesn't. Next, print a case using a 3D printer with slic3r's support option at a 5mm spacing for the best results. Attach the webcam PCB to the recess on the back of the printed case using hot glue and solder the wires in the designated groove.
