Monette Socket
thingiverse
The socket is an experimental component designed specifically for a prosthesis and is being tested right now as part of upper limb prostheses. It's made from heat forming a 3D printed part, which results in a simple dimensional shape that creates a socket perfectly customized to fit the user. During thermoforming, linearly extruded PLA undergoes cross bonding while it's further annealed to create a much stronger bond between layers of the printed part. This particular socket uses a half-inch-twenty thread flange locknut. The nut enables the socket to be screwed directly onto a conventional prosthetic terminal device. You can get the nut used in these pictures from McMaster Carr at http://www.mcmaster.com/#94831a671/=wbk3jh.
