Monastero della Visitazione - A.D. 1614 (Viterbo - Italy) The foundation stone of this magnificent monastery was laid on July 28, 1607, and it wasn't until May 25, 1614, that Bishop Cardinal Tiberio Muti consecrated the sacred space. Not only did the main altar receive its blessing, but also four additional altars: one dedicated to the Crucifix, built by Girolama Santacroce; another honoring Saints Benedict and Bernard; a third paying tribute to Saints Bartholomew and Francis; and finally, an altar in reverence of St. Charles. On May 26, 1645, Innocence X granted the monastery a special privilege: to hold a grand festival in honor of the Visitation, as well as the feast days of St. Bartholomew, St. Benedict, St. Bernard, and the seven altars within the monastery - an honor shared with Rome's seven churches. Additionally, Pope Innocence X granted clemency for pilgrims to climb the Holy Staircase on their knees, prompting the construction of an internal staircase within the Monastery.
