"Monarch 80" - 80mm Brushless Micro Drone
thingiverse
My trusty 80mm brushless micro drone frame, inspired by the popular "Butterfly" design, has been a joy to work with. Perhaps I'll create a second version that's even more exciting. Version 1.3 introduces a new twist - three zip ties instead of stand-offs and screws for added stability. I've been flying this baby on the pavement and carpet in my living room, freestyle style, and enjoying every crash-filled moment. The extra protection has been a game-changer, as seen in image #4. This frame weighs in at 43 grams without the battery or camera, making it my best flying print yet. Maybe I'm also getting better at piloting - who knows? Love this version more than any other, and its bouncy performance is just what I need. Still, I know it's on the heavy side since I get about five minutes less flying time compared to my carbon fiber frame. My go-to batteries so far are 7.4v; check out image #5 for details. Update: After a dozen battery charges or so, this frame has finally broken - time to test out the "Rugged" version! Untested Version 2 aims to make the whole thing lighter. Fingers crossed it won't be too flimsy! Cura says it's five grams less than the first frame bottom. What I need: Motors: 1103 (soon, I'll create a version for 1104 motors since I have four of those) Nylon stand-offs x 8 (where did my caliper thingy go?) Two regular-sized zip-ties A few extra small zip ties (for the crash cage around the camera) Some rubber bands to secure the camera/video transmitter unit PETG prints with my Maker Select V2 require a lot of file work and sanding. New in this version: Mounting holes for 16mm x 16mm FC - what I flew last night and some this morning. Still needs improvement, though! The camera in the picture didn't work, no wonder they sent it to me for free! This frame is way too heavy for an 80mm Micro at 80-odd grams; still working on that. Peace out!
