Mona Lisa - da Vinci Color
pinshape
I'm thrilled to share my first print off the da Vinci Color beta unit, a machine that's truly living up to its namesake. It was only fitting that this groundbreaking printer produce a reproduction of Leonardo da Vinci's most iconic work, and I must say it's a stunning sight to behold. Yes, the image is slightly blurry, but that's largely due to the ambient lighting rather than any issues with the printer itself. As the first 2D inkjet FDM 3D printer on the market, the da Vinci Color is a game-changer in every sense of the word. This innovative machine utilizes CMYK ink and special PLA filament that absorbs the color perfectly, resulting in a level of detail and color accuracy that's nothing short of breathtaking. The printing process itself is fascinating to watch, as the printer accepts an OBJ file along with its corresponding MTL file, allowing for precise control over every aspect of the print job. First, the physical layer is printed, followed by a second pass that sees the ink being applied directly over this base layer. It's a truly mesmerizing process. I've included some timelapse footage of the printing process below, which showcases the da Vinci Color's capabilities in stunning detail.
