A Molotov cocktail is another name for a petrol bomb, gasoline bomb, bottle bomb, or poor man's grenade. Because they are easy to make, these cocktails have been used by various groups, including criminals, protesters, rioters, urban guerrillas, terrorists, irregular soldiers, and even regular soldiers in need of alternative military-grade weapons. Their primary purpose is to start fires rather than cause complete destruction, often leading to chaos and disorder, sometimes being used as a tool during riots and mass protests. The term "Molotov cocktail" originated among the Finns during the Winter War, where it was referred to as Molotovin koktaili in Finnish. This name was intended as an insult towards Soviet foreign minister Vyacheslav Molotov, one of the key architects of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact signed in late August 1939.
