Molecular Model - Thiamine (Vitamin) - atomic scale model
thingiverse
Just a nice water-tight, manifold, 3D-friendly STL molecular model of the vitamin Thiamine. Check out my profile for others - some I've printed, while others are waiting for their turn. I do take molecule requests, but don't expect me to rush through them :). These models help teach my kids about chemistry in a fun and engaging way. The vitamins are perfect for discussions because they illustrate the importance of getting essential nutrients from external sources, like vegetables. Our bodies can't produce everything we need, so it's vital to eat right. For FDM printing, these models will require extensive support structures and careful planning to ensure a successful print. I'm excited to see SLM versions emerge, which should be easier to work with. The images showcase various stages of the modeling process. Each molecule undergoes computational atomic bond optimization and simulation to achieve accurate bond angles. The atomic "ball" is scaled in proportion to its atomic radius, though the actual radius shown is a modeling convenience. These models are designed with enough triangles for large-scale fabrication.
