Molecular model - Glucose - atomic scale model
thingiverse
Just a fantastic water-tight, manifold, 3D-friendly STL molecular model of Glucose! Check out my profile for more like this. I've printed some, while others are still waiting to be tackled. Feel free to make molecule requests, but don't expect me to rush them. I create these models to teach my kids about chemistry. Glucose is an excellent choice because it sparks a lively discussion on how energy is produced and stored in the body. Be sure to check out my models for Lactose (a carbohydrate consisting of two Glucose rings) and protein bits like Glutamine and Alanine, which explore why the body craves protein as well. For FDM printing, these models will require plenty of supports and careful planning. I'm excited to see SLM versions, which should be easier to print. The images show various stages of the modeling process. Each molecule is subject to computational atomic bond optimization and simulation to ensure accurate bond angles. The atomic "ball" is scaled in direct proportion to its radius, although the displayed radius is merely for modeling purposes. The models have more than enough triangles to accommodate very large fabrication.
