Molecular Model - ATP (Adenine TriPhosphate) - atomic scale model
thingiverse
Just a top-notch, watertight, manifold, 3D-friendly STL molecular model of Adenine TriPhosphate right here. Check out my profile for more where that came from. I've got some printed already and others waiting in the wings - I do take molecule requests but don't expect lightning-fast turnaround :)\r\n\r\nI use these to teach my kids about chemistry in a way that's really engaging. This one (ATP) is the body's main energy delivery system, so it's super important to understand how it works. Compare it to my model of ADP - which is essentially ATP after delivering one phosphate for energy. I also have models of Glucose and Lactose on deck for discussing the Krebs cycle and how food gets turned into energy.\r\n\r\nFor FDM printing, these will need a ton of supports and careful planning to get right. But I'm really looking forward to seeing some SLM versions, which should be way easier.\r\n\r\nThe images are from various points in the modeling process - all molecules have been subject to computational atomic bond optimization and simulation to get those bond angles just right. The atomic "ball" is scaled linearly with atomic radius, although the absolute radius shown is purely for modeling and ease of representation. These models should have enough triangles for even the largest fabrication jobs.
