Mold for casting mountain shaped candle
thingiverse
This is a mold for casting a mountain shaped candle. It is composed of 2 parts. It is closed with 4 bolts of 3.8mm diameter and 50mm length. I print it in PLA. While casting, be careful of the temperature of the candle wax, as its melting temperature is close to softening point of PLA. You shouldn't heat it above 65-70°C, otherwise you might experience issues with the mold (such as mold leakage or deformation). As the surface aspect of PLA after printing is not very good, I usually apply a thermoset resin on the internal surface of the mold (such as epoxy, 1-2 layer), and sand it to achieve a smooth surface. Better candle surface aspect can be achieved that way. The design does not include sealing mechanism at the junction of the 2 molds part. While the pressure of the bolts is usually enough to seal the mold properly during casting, I recommend to apply tape (or any material suitable for sealing) on the external surface of the junction of the mold to avoid any wax leakage.
