Mold by floors - Fast open system
thingiverse
I'm trying to perfect a cast of a model in PLA to aluminum. After several failed attempts at molding with cracks and other issues, I decided to try this approach in two parts to see if it would work better. First, I filled and dried the first half of the mold, then climbed up a little frame and created the second casting mold. This project is based on another design from Thingiverse (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1237515). However, I made some changes because Part B gave me trouble with my slicer software, and I also perforated Part A to use a pin instead of a mounted file. The results are great - it works very well! Please don't use this or any other design of mine for commercial purposes. My goal is to share DIY designs that can be improved upon by the community. If you'd like to see more designs, join our group on Thingiverse (http://www.thingiverse.com/groups/aluminium-pla-casting) and check out what others have shared. Bring your own favorite designs too! Of course, all feedback and advice are welcome - feel free to improve on my design!
