Mokastrap - A Magnetic Mokacam Universal Mount for Straps
myminifactory
This is a versatile mount for a Mokacam that utilizes a robust 3/4" x 1/8" magnet to securely attach the Mokacam! This design aims to make the Mokacam easily accessible while maintaining its security during daily use. Inspiration: As an avid photographer, I'm probably one of the worst photographers ever. Not because I lack skill (though no promises), but rather because I don't take pictures often. When I spot something worth capturing, it takes too much time to retrieve my camera from my bag, remove the lens cap, and finally take the picture. In my opinion, that's 5 unnecessary steps. Upon discovering Mokacam on MyMiniFactory, I was immediately drawn to its magnetic mount on the back. The magnet offers valuable accessibility that sets it apart from similar cameras. There are no tools required, no layers of protection, just a simple detachment of the Mokacam and capture your image or video. Having the Mokacam magnetically attached to my backpack or headband seemed like a solution to the problems I faced with my mirrorless camera: there's no need to dig through cases or bags, no tools to remove or play with, just the camera whenever I need it. Design Goals: To make this part work effectively, it needs to be strong, low profile, and capable of retaining the Mokacam securely. Low Profile: By keeping the part at 6mm thick and modeling 45-degree chamfers around the path of the strap, the mount and camera sit low against whatever strap they are secured to. The angle of these chamfers allows the mount to be printed without any supports. Strength: Printing at 80% infill while maintaining most geometry at approximately 4mm thick, the mount is incredibly rigid and I had to apply a significant amount of force to break the strap arm. Mokacam Retention: I'm unfamiliar with the specs of the Mokacam's magnet, but I assume it's quite strong. The magnets in the Parts section have a pull force of 9.2 pounds ensuring a strong attraction. Alternatively, a steel washer can probably be used. If found that the Mokacam tends to slide off the magnet to the sides, short flanges could easily be modeled to retain it in place. Parts: To print this part, print supportless at 80% infill. This ensures an incredibly rigid part that is still flexible enough to mount to a strap. To assemble this part, you'll need one 3/4" x 1/8" disc magnet or metal disc. In addition, you'll need to attach it to the printed part using adhesive. I recommend the following magnets from Apex Magnets: https://www.apexmagnets.com/3-4-x-1-8-disc-magnets-adhesive-backed My Own Notes: I had a great time modeling and iterating on this part, and it was an interesting project to think about. I'm looking forward to experimenting with magnets more in my future designs.
