Modular Y Carriage
thingiverse
A fully expandable Y carriage is achieved by simply printing additional beams as needed. The compatible Y belt holder can be found here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:745934 Print Settings: Rafts: Rafts are not required. Supports: No supports are necessary. Infill: A 30% infill, or medium density, is recommended (Zortrax). Notes: These parts should be printed with strength in mind to ensure mechanical stability. Custom Section: Notes To further develop the design and improve compatibility with other ideas, I've provided a source for 123D Design files. This will serve as a base for anyone who wants to make this carriage even more flexible. The carriage has not been tested in real-world applications, but it was modeled based on my experience assembling and fitting these parts together, striving to achieve maximum modularity. Custom Section: Why Modular? Most printable Y carriages available for Mendel/Prusa-based printers have a major flaw: they require a large, single model that won't fit on standard 200x200 platforms. While some modular designs exist, they often lack flexibility and still restrict the build volume. Moreover, there's a risk of parts peeling off during printing due to the size of the objects (a common issue I've faced).
