modular x-carriage - next level: MGN12 linear guide x-axis
thingiverse
As a key upgrade to get my Tevo Tarantula and dual-hotend-setup working on full bed size I made a decision: redesign my X-axis. This contains a MGN12 linear guide, which requires a higher position in comparison to the bottom edge of the extrusion. At least you have to use a 4mm-dropped module (V4-version), better an 8mm (V5). Due to the unused wheels on the carriage it is possible to use the normal-sized integrated fan without the expansion on the fan's side. This part's modular carriage is shifted backwards as much as possible. There remains a gap between the right fan and the extrusion of around 7mm, which could crash into a possible X-axis-motor-mount on the right of the axis! With the full design of my future X-axis there is no crash expected (height is 6mm). All other files are available at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2158837. Stay tuned for Z- and X-axis-parts. X-axis Carriage: The basic component takes the hotend modules. Four M3-screw-holes mount it to the MGN12 miniature guide carriage, next to that two holes as a central point for possible add-ons (cable chain, fan connectors). It's slightly larger in width than the HIWIN MGN12H carriage (~ 45mm) to trigger the X-endstop. There are two versions per each type of MGN12: long and short. The shorter one takes the entire hotend module by 4mm towards the extrusion, but it does not fit with dual integrated fans on my designed printer rework. The left fan cover ("HOT!") would crash into the X-idler. X-carriage-modules: Because of the higher MGN12 linear rail (13mm in comparison to 3mm) the modules need to be lowered by 4, better 8 mm (V5). I used a 4mm first and the extrusion hit the rear heated bed glass clamp. There was a gap of 2.5mm.
