Modular Tops was inspired by the idea to build a simple custom spinning top together with my daughter, who joined me in creating something entirely new. As soon as I printed the first prototype, the design began to take on a life of its own and became increasingly modular. Before long, an optional mechanical starter mechanism was added, which made it easier for her to remove parts like the tip and handles. I started adding features that allowed easy fastening and removing of parts, making it simpler for both of us to work with the top. The starter can be used as a wrench tool on most of the smaller parts, saving time and effort. As I continued to refine the design, I found myself spending much more time tweaking all the parts than originally expected. In the end, I created a pretty nice universal and modular top construction kit that's perfect for building custom spinning tops.
