Modular Tool Corral
pinshape
It's finally here! The world's first easily customizable, modular tool corral has arrived and it won't break the bank. A compact, $12 furniture dolly serves as its foundation. I chose 2x4 framing because it's affordable and allows for easy mounting with cheap drywall screws on any surface. This setup meets my needs perfectly and provides a designated spot for each tool. Tools tend to clutter my workspace, making them difficult to find when needed most. To combat this, I'm implementing a bit of DIY ingenuity. In addition to the core dolly, I incorporated a magnetic bar and sturdy parts trays. Much of the structure is repurposed from items I already had lying around. The total cost came out to around $50 at Harbor Freight, excluding filament and tools. The top array features a quad frame made from 7/8" dowels spaced 60mm apart (measured from their centers). 1/2" schedule 40 PVC is also an option, though it won't fit as snugly. The tool holder blocks can be snapped into place or screwed/riveted securely. I also added a luggage carrier that allows the entire unit to rest at a 25-degree incline for easy wheeling up ramps. If you're interested in creating a customizer for this concept, please message me – I'm not proficient in SCAD. Everything is modeled using 3dsmax with splines and booleans, so it should translate well. Enjoy!
