Modular Snap-Fit Saturn V
thingiverse
A highly detailed snap-fit Saturn V rocket model is available, requiring no glue. It features modular design and a conversion ring, enabling full compatibility with the Modular Snap-Fit Airship and Trireme Upgrade. The model was optimized on 1/21/2013, with improved wall thicknesses for two-loop printing on almost every layer. The individual pieces are now available. Prototyped on a Replicator 2, the model is designed for support-free printing. An updated version 3 was released on 1/31/2013, including improvements and optimizations. For Replicator or Replicator2 users, try slicing in MakerWare's Slice engine with .15mm layers and zero infill. A more detailed MakerWare slice profile will be posted later. Sliced in Skeinforge, the recommended settings include no support/raft, layer thickness of .15mm or less, two to three shells (important for vertical prongs), feed speed of 80mm/s, and travel speed of 150mm/s. The model was created using Autodesk Inventor and has a complex .stl surface mesh. A solid version is being worked on. If needed, shims can be printed to tighten the top and tail sections. The Saturn V model also replaces the airship's tail and nose or hull sections, converting it into a Saturn V Airship when combined with the included adapter ring from the Modular Snap-Fit Airship or Trireme Hull. License is currently no-derivatives but will be opened upon completion of the art series.
