Modular Shelves with 8 mm Aluminum Round Tube
thingiverse
Hi! I designed these modular shelves from scratch using 8 mm aluminum round tubes as the structure. These tubes are extremely affordable and widely available, costing approximately 1.5 € per meter. You'll likely only need two meters unless you're planning to create very large shelves. To accommodate various designs, I included both straight and corner variants. I also designed them to be screwless wall-mounted, which was essential since I used them in a bathroom where I didn't want to damage the tiles. You can securely attach these shelves using powerful double-sided tape or command strips, which have proven strength. There are even waterproof command strips available for mounting in showers. To assemble the shelves, you'll need to print the desired bases (printing orientation is shown in the images), ends, and corners. The tube length inserted into each part is clearly marked in three pictures. Once your prints are complete, simply cut the total tube length by adding these distances to the tube. You don't need to be precise; it's better to have shorter distances to avoid any separation between the bases. The hollowed parts feature a small cut-out for inserting wires. I've enlarged this cut since I noticed they were too short initially. This should resolve any issues you may encounter. I highly recommend using a tube cutter like the one shown in the picture, as it makes clean cuts (8 bucks or less at most hardware stores). However, you can use whatever tools you have on hand, such as a dremel or hacksaw. To assemble the structure, follow the photos provided. If the tubes seem too loose, you can use a hot glue drop to secure them in place. Once assembled, press the bases into the rails until they're securely attached. There are multiple parts with different dimensions and orientations, but you can scale the bases in the same direction as the staples to create any needed dimension. However, scaling other directions will deform the staple inserted into the tubes. This project is incredibly easy to complete, and I hope this guide has been helpful for you! Feel free to leave any comments or questions below. Bye!
