A set of versatile pieces for constructing scalable octahedral networks utilizing widely available wooden skewers is now within reach. Feel free to resize the designs according to available materials; the files utilize 4mm holes for 3mm skewers, but this may vary depending on printer precision. With 3.5mm skewers, I used 4.5mm holes, so I resized the pieces by +1/8th (times 1.125). Pieces required (depending on pyramid size) are as follows: - Level 1: one top and four angles - Level 2: an additional four edges, four sides, and one bottom - Level 3: an additional four edges, four sides, four faces, three bottoms, and one center Each extra n-th level will require an additional (n+1)^2 pieces of type edge, side, face, bottom, and center. Once you grasp the concept, you'll be able to calculate the quantities with ease. I'm considering launching a permanent contest for the largest pyramid ever realized, so don't hesitate to send your photos; I've stopped at level 3 as evident from the photos. I'd love to hear from you! The pieces don't need support or a brim (if you have good adhesion), except for the center piece (which has tubes all around by necessity). A new feature has been added: triangular-based pyramids, which require tri-corner and tri-edge pieces. After testing it, I found that it works just fine. - Level 1: four tri-corners - Level 2: an additional six tri-edges - Level 3: an additional six tri-edges and four faces (the regular kind) - Level 4: an additional six tri-edges, eight faces, and one center Actually, it's the same type of network just rotated, so there are probably plenty of hybrids that can be achieved from the same pieces. If you need one that isn't here, please let me know; it can be made in a minute! Another new feature (on the triangle-based pyramid) is little shelves that fit on the horizontal triangular cells, allowing small objects to be arranged inside. This makes an interesting shelf structure for small objects. Designed for 7cm sticks and 9mm nodes with a scale factor of 1.125. Feel free to rescale them to your needs; they should work anyway if the sticks are long enough (at least a third of node distance must be exposed).
