Modular Prescription Frames

Modular Prescription Frames

thingiverse

These are a pair of custom modular glasses designed specifically for my prescription lenses. Customizable with ease, these frames feature a slot at the front where the arms can slide in seamlessly. The model requires minimal support, none that will compromise its overall aesthetic. My Lenses measure 55mm wide and 33mm tall, so if your lenses match their shape and dimensions, you should be good to go. If there's any uncertainty, I recommend comparing a scan of your lenses to the SVG file provided. The included files contain everything you need to print and design your own custom pair of glasses. The glasses files include the model that I printed with all the modifications I desired. The "Frames.svg" file is the scan I used to create these frames. SVG files can be imported into Autodesk 123D and edited as needed, along with all the "base" files. When remixing this model, please respect the license under which it was uploaded. Print Settings Printer Brand: Robo 3D Printer Model: R1 ABS + PLA Model Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Yes Resolution: .1 Infill: 100% Notes: For best results, I recommend using the settings above. Post-Printing POST PRINTING To achieve optimal results, I suggest sanding the parts where the frames touch your nose. You should also add slight bends to the end of the frame arms so they feel natural. Additionally, consider curving the front part of the frames where the lenses go to ensure a better fit (see pictures). Simply use a hair spray can and bend the frames slightly around it. Once complete, pop in your lenses and enjoy! The print shown in the picture was created using Hatchbox Wood PLA and sanded and stained the front to provide contrast. How I Designed This Design Process 1.) I began by tracing all components of my glasses onto graph paper and scanning them into a computer. 2.) I then traced the images into Inkscape and exported them as an SVG file for further editing in 123D. 3.) Next, I added fillets and other aesthetic aspects to the extruded frames. 4.) Finally, I made modifications to the printed part.
