Modular Mounting System V5

Modular Mounting System V5

cults3d

This project is a mounting system designed specifically for lightweight objects such as smartphones and compact cameras. MAJOR V5 UPDATE [27/07/19]: - Visually streamlined arms with curved profiles and uniformed strength are now available, making them more suitable for printing orientation. - Enhanced tolerance at tab connections has been achieved. - A rotating phone clamp allows for quick switching between horizontal and vertical orientations. - A lock feature has been added to the phone clamp holder to prevent sliding. - Stronger C-clamps have been implemented. - A flat stand with improved aesthetics has been designed. - An assembly diagram for various applications has been included. - Useful part links have been updated. FEATURES: - The system is modular, allowing for flexible use and enabling most phones and small cameras to be mounted on a wide range of objects. - The same parts can be printed for different purposes, making the design highly versatile. - The phone clamp is designed to grab phones firmly, accommodating devices from 55mm to 85mm in width (iPhone 4 - iPhone XS Max and larger). - The clamp hook has been angled to prevent accidental button presses on the side of the phone. The modules can be used with GoPro compatible equipment. Standard M5 bolts and nuts are included in the design, but metal bolts and nuts are recommended for the arm. A printable version is available for those interested: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3774977. With this modular system, I plan to develop new add-ons. Feel free to watch this project for updates. Many objects designed for GoPro can be used with this setup. STEP files for modular parts have been uploaded for collaboration and improvement. ###ACHIEVED APPLICATIONS: - Phone/Camera/GoPro mount for Ultimaker 2 monitoring. - Phone/Camera/GoPro mount for Aluminum extrusion printers. - Desk clamp for phone/camera. - Stand for phone. - Headphone stand. - Bike mount for phone (in remixes). - And many more applications in the REMIX section. MAKING: - It is highly recommended to print with complete support interface for the parts in this project. Support interface will give a flat bottom, resulting in better mechanical performance. - The orientation of STL files has been thought through during testing. Try printing at the current orientation unless you encounter problems. Reorienting the arms may result in broken tabs if printed without support material. - Mirror the arm one after another to have knobs on the same side. - In order for the bolts to be strong enough to withstand pulling force, they cannot be printed vertically. Therefore, the bolts are oriented horizontally, with the bottom teeth trimmed off, and a 30-degree step shape (usually 45 degrees if printed vertically). This treatment makes the bolts both strong and easy to print with support material even at 0.2mm layer height. - Print bolts and nuts at low outer wall speed (15mm/s) to increase accuracy. If the tolerance for bolts and nuts doesn't work out for you, try changing XY compensation settings in your slicer to achieve a larger tolerance. ###NOTES: - It is not recommended to extend the arm too long. General filament is not strong enough to handle that much lateral load at this size, and the arm may become wobbly. - The arms are optimized to stay still. If you wish to use this design as a selfie stick or similar purpose, please be cautious with material strength and use at your own risk. ###ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: - The joints are inspired by GoPro design. - The foldable arm is inspired by "GoPro counter balance folding stick. by UltiArjan" (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:433378). - Bolts and nuts were created with the awesome customizer "NUT JOB | Nut, Bolt, Washer and Threaded Rod Factory by mike_mattala" (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:193647). - The desk clamp is inspired by "G-Clamp fully printable by johann517" (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1673030). Thank you to all who contributed to the great work that made this project possible.
