The design of this base is centered around feasibility and customization. The entire base consists of separate modules which can be connected in different ways depending on the needs of the mission. Modules Airlock Module This module is used as an entry & exit point for extra vehicular activity. It consists of a rigid metal frame and inflatable walls to reduce weight. Connector Module This module is used to join other modules together and is compatible with all modules. It consists of a rigid metal frame and inflatable walls to reduce weight. Miscellaneous Module This module is used for any purposes, including, but not limited to, habitation, research, observation, and storage. It consists of a rigid metal frame and inflatable walls to reduce weight. Greenhouse Module This module is used to store and nourish all plant life brought aboard the mission to produce oxygen. It consists of a rigid metal frame and transparent inflatable walls to reduce weight and so that sunlight may pass through to the plants. Resource Module This module is used to obtain and store any gaseous resources taken from the martian atmosphere. The gases stored in the tanks can be used to make fuel for a return mission. Communications Module This module is used to send and receive transmissions in order to communicate with mission control. The offset feed dish on the module will be able to receive transmissions from a satellite in areostationary orbit above the base. It consists of a rigid metal frame and inflatable walls to reduce weight. Solar Module This module is used as the main source of power to the base. It consists of forty large solar arrays with four panels each. This will supply power to the base during daytime and use stored power during the night. Turbine Module This module is used as a secondary source of power for the base. It consists of three wind turbines with collapsible support columns for facilitated transport. This module will be the main power source in the event of unfavorable weather which renders the solar module useless. *Each module is equipped with support legs with independent height adjustment for uneven terrain and dig into the ground for added sturdiness. Radiation There are different ways of dealing with the harsh radiation on Mars. The simplest way would be to essentially engulf the base with Martian soil to protect each of the modules from harmful galactic cosmic rays.
