Modular Magnetic Go Board

Modular Magnetic Go Board

thingiverse

My Go board game creation started as a solution for playing in moving vehicles but developed into a modular set, forming any n*n size or unique shapes. The magnetic pieces provide improved alignment and accessibility for those with less fine motor skills. A video demonstration is available. For assembly, print multiple types of pieces without sanding adjustments. To create the grid pattern, mix dissolved scrap ABS plastic with metallic purple pigment in an acetone-compatible syringe. Insert 5mm magnetic balls using a flat-tipped machine screw. Each field piece weighs approximately 3 grams with a 30% infill. Go stones are printed with 100% infill. An alternative finishing method involves dipping the pieces in black ABS and acetone mixture, sanding the top layer to reveal the pattern, creating a fractal-like effect. However, this results in tighter fits due to added plastic.
