Modular, Magnetic, Customizable Egg Cartons
prusaprinters

I have a new better version which is more customizable and comes with a Fusion 360 file, check it out here.

Reusable egg cartons with magnetic cover. Comes in 3 sizes and different arrangements of 1, 2, 4 and 6 packs. You can also flip the cover to make it into stackable open cartons.

The files come in two sizes - regular and small, but you can combine one small and one regular side to make a medium size. Medium was the best for me, at least for my backyard chickens, but the large might be better for extra large store eggs. To print the small version, you can see I added all the same files but with a "small_" prefix to the filenames.

For 1 and 2 packs, both sides are symmetric so you can just print two of the same STL. For 4 and 6 packs, you will see a side A and side B, they are just mirrored so that the magnet tabs align. You can still combine a small side A with a regular size side B to make a medium 4 or 6 pack.

I also added STL files for the individual parts, so you can easily arrange your own custom combination in any shape and number of eggs. You can easily do that in tinkercad - overlapping the walls of each cup by 1.2mm lines it up perfectly (post a remix!). Use the files with the "custom_" prefix, available for the regular and small.

This is a remix using the individual cups from this design in thingiverse, which I resized and added the tabs for the magnets:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3709527

For the magnets, I used 6 x 3mm disc magnets - got mine from ebay (link below). You can also use them without magnets, or add little pegs or something.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/10-50-100Pcs-Super-Strong-Block-Round-Disc-Magnets-Rare-Earth-Neodymium-Magnet/132615945305?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=431952336516&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Print instructions

Print with the magnet slot tabs on the plate, no supports - the magnet holes are small enough that they are easily bridged, whereas the other way around you would need supports. I used a 0.6 nozzle with 0.4mm layers because you really don't need it to look pretty. I used three perimeters, but honestly that seems pretty unnecessary. I used PLA, transparent kind on one of the sides to more easily see if there are eggs inside.

I added 3MF files with all the options arranged, correct orientation, set for 0.4mm nozzle with 0.3mm layers
