Modular Hinge
thingiverse
In my final project, I opted for a modular design to avoid failure of the entire piece if one print fails. The initial print would have taken 3-4 days due to potential issues like power outages or mechanical problems. To minimize risks, I used tbusers pins (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:10541) and made connecting points for testing before proceeding with the main print. The design is a 3D-printed accordion book, using 3D scans created with 123d Catch as surfaces. I'm utilizing PrettySmallThings' surface (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:25189) for the connecting parts. My goal is to connect multiple surfaces to hinges in a week for an art exhibition in Chicago that focuses on new takes on print-on-demand books and photography. This design was created using Tinkercad.
