Description:

I designed this modular frame system because I wanted an easy to change and design format for my instax photos. For me this design needed to:

Have a bit of wall presence. I wanted to make the frames thick enough to sit alongside other framed art.

Be easy to change and rearrange. If I feel like making my photos into a network diagram, I can! Frames can be connected in the back through joiners of different lengths. This allows for some creativity. I also tested the tolerance of my joiners. They have a slight taper so that they are easy to change out, but fit snug in place once attached. No gluing is required.

Be easy to change out the photos. The photos can be swapped out through a slot in the top of the frame, just like when they come out of the camera. This allows you to change out photos on the fly without having to take the frame off the wall.

Allow for popular options like sitting on a desk. While my desk is to messy to keep photos on, other folks like standing frames. A kickstand can be printed that slots into the frame like the joiners. You can use it horizontally or vertically. It also passed my bump tests. :)

Allow for other popular options like hanging on a wire. A separate model has a wire slot as well, this wire slot allows you to situate the frames on a wire and the wire is centered on the frame so that they won't lean strangely if the wire is hanging in space. Go center of gravity! Go!

I also plan to just use them as singular frames. They don't need to be part of the system. :)

Model Options:

As noted above there are two frame models one with a wire slot and the other without. There are also a number of joiners at differing lengths for networking the frames together. There is also a kickstand that slots into the frames so that it can stand on a desk.

Printing Notes:

Supports: Minimal supports are needed, though… if you are feeling really confident in your long bridges it could probably be done…. I recommend adding supports under the frame lip on the front and the frame lip on the back.

Print joiners with solid infill. I found when I printed these without solid infil, they had a tendency to want to break off in the frame. They are small though and I found solid infil was best.

Enjoy
