Modular Flexy Hand 2 (Interchangeable fingers)

thingiverse

This remix of Flexy Hand 2 introduces interchangeable fingers, allowing users to customize their device's appearance. The user can swap finger colors as frequently as they like, taking advantage of the flexibility that comes with 3D-printed prosthetics. Modifications were made to all finger pieces and the palm to enable seamless removal and attachment without restrung the device. Every other part is imported directly from the Flexy Hand 2 Thingiverse page. Two significant changes were implemented in the original design. Firstly, slots were added to each finger piece to allow strings to slide in and out of channels as needed. Secondly, a ball-and-socket system was introduced to secure the strings in fingertips instead of permanent knots. Additionally, palm walls between fingers were shortened to enable free sliding. The main motivation behind this remix is to expand customization options for 3D-printed prosthetics beyond the fabrication stage. This design enables users to swap finger colors at will, allowing them to change their device's appearance as frequently as they like. This prototype has not been thoroughly tested and requires further refinement. The process of switching fingers is not yet streamlined and leaves room for improvement. Future modifications could focus on functional attachments, building upon this premise. I plan to conduct more testing in the future and appreciate any suggestions on the design. This work was supported by NSF under Grant No. (1723744).
