Modular Figure Display Shelf
thingiverse
After searching through Thingiverse for some time, I realized that collectors had no good options for generic display shelves. Like many others in various hobbies, I found myself running out of room for displaying my collection, so I decided I would design my own shelves and share them with others. I had several goals for this project. First, the Figure Shelf needed to be printed support-free. I designed this shelf specifically so it could be printed vertically without any supports. Printing the layers this way also strengthened the shelf horizontally. Second, it needed to be strong enough to hold a heavy figure but be designed to use as little filament as possible. I wanted this shelf to be usable for all collectors, not just collectors with light figures. In my testing, each shelf can hold at least 20lbs (using four legs, of course), but I’m sure it could hold more. Third, it had to be modular. I didn’t want to lock anyone into using a specific setup. You can print as many shelves as you want, with as few legs as you need. You can make cubes, stacking the shelves or one long shelf. Finally, it had to be simple. I didn’t want to make a complicated mechanism to connect the shelves/legs. Using the rail system, you simply slide the shelves together and slide in the legs. Need more space? Print another shelf, two more legs, and you’re good to go. Easy and simple. (The tolerances are very tight between shelves. If you have trouble sliding them together, I recommend using a rubber mallet to help. This is a necessity to prevent the shelves from wobbling when no legs are used at the shelf joint) There are 3 lengths of legs. The longest leg is designed for larger figures (specifically, my S.H. Monster Arts Godzilla collection). The medium length leg should be long enough for most Funko POP! figures. The short leg is for smaller, 3 3/4 action figures. Obviously, you can put any height figure on TOP of the shelf, the leg measurements are for what figures fit BENEATH the shelves. There are 2 different shelves. One is for a single-level shelf and the other is for stacking. I am not sure how high can be stacked before structural integrity is compromised, so let's assume you can only stack one level for now (I simply don't have the filament to print it all to find out).
