Modular DS Cartridge Display Vault

Modular DS Cartridge Display Vault

This is a custom display case for Nintendo DS games cartridges. Instead of storing loose carts in a box or binder, I wanted a showcase where more carts can be added as they're obtained. To achieve this, I designed a modular display with a transparent window. The display case is engineered to prevent cart ejection from the interior frame, sandwiched between the acetate window and the main casing. When rotated, it should snap back into place, resting on the notches of the cartridge rather than its contacts. Additional cases can be connected using the interlocking "teeth" design, while borders complete the set. Total printing time for this single piece was 4 hours, with a preliminary bed to enhance adhesion. No supports were required due to the flat surface and high resolution at 0.1313mm. The nozzle temperature was set to 210C, and the bed at 60C using PrimaValue PLA. Cutting the acetate proved challenging, resulting in small cracks due to its thickness. However, thinner acetate will be used in future revisions. Borders are also included to seal off a row or column. "Closed" borders prevent further additions, making sense in this context.
