Modular Catch All Tray & Charging Station System with Cable Slots
prusaprinters
This model contains a wide variety of modular pieces that can be used to create the perfect organizational system. Whether this means organizing drawers, creating a catch all tray, setting up a bedside charging station for your devices, or even creating a wall mounted shelving unit, this system can do it all.I had success printing these at a 0.2 mm layer height. Each file has the measurement of the joinable piece. For example the size of a “2x3in Tray” is 2in x 3in, however, due to the need to fit in the joints the dimensions of each “tray” is exactly 3/8in (0.95cm) smaller than the dimensions listed in each file name. It is important to take this into account when deciding which pieces you'll need. It is also important to know that the wall pieces are 0.75" thick while the tray pieces are 1" thick. This means that there are specialized fillers and joints for the walls and the trays. So keeping track of which pieces are which can save time during assembly. If you have any requests for additional features please feel free to leave a comment. I also intend to include additional models that will be compatible with these in the future, so follow me to stay up to date.Warning: Not all configurations of this have been tested. It is advised that you ensure that your design is stable before putting anything of value on it. JointsThis is meant to be a very stable, seamless, and tight system. As a result most of the joints that connect the trays do need to be hammered in place. I found that using a wooden mallet worked best for this, but a normal hammer will work as well. If using a normal hammer it may be worth printing the “Hammer Block” which can be used between the hammer and joints to avoid damaging your joints/trays. The “Hammer Block” also allows you to hammer in joints that may be hard to reach as they are close to a shelf.Butterfly joints are the only real joint used in this design. However, it is important to keep track of which ones are for the wall joints and which are for the tray joints as the tray joints are ¼" (0.635cm) longer. Using the wrong ones on the walls will block cord flow. If you would like to adjust the layout of your creation, or if you just made a simple mistake removing the joints can be very difficult. Hammering alone will not work well. It is best to put the piece on a raised surface with the joint hanging off the edge. Then you can use the “Joint Removal Tool” by placing the tip over the top of the joint and hammering the top of the removal tool until the joint is removed. I have found that the hardest pieces to remove were the “Edge Fillers” that were longer than 1in. If you intend to alter the design I would advise using the “1in Edge Fillers” as these are easier to remove. Connection PiecesThere are a few connection pieces that allow for transitions between surfaces and walls. These are the "Tray to Wall Turn" and "Wall to Wall Turn" files. Edge FillersThere are a large collection of pieces that are meant to fill the edges. These pieces include the following feature:Edge Fillers - of 1in, 2in, or 3in lengthsInner Corner Edge Fillers - pieces that allow the edging to turn a 90deg internal cornerOuter Corner Edge Fillers - pieces that allow the edging to turn a 90deg external cornerTray to Wall Edge Fillers - a right and left piece meant to cover the ends of a tray to wall pieceWall to Wall Edge Fillers - a right and left piece meant to cover the ends of a wall to wall pieceVertical Transition - a wall to wall transition piece that accommodates for an immediate turnWall Mount - a piece that can be installed to mount system to the wall or stabilize a top heavy trayMany of these components have a separate piece for walls and trays. Be sure not to mix these up as the pieces for the trays are 1" tall and the pieces for the wall are ¾" tall. TraysThere are a variety of trays that have a system of channels underneath which allow you to run cords to the tray(s) of your choice. These can be interconnected to create a great catch all tray or possibly in drawer storage. Each tray is 1in tall and 0.5in deep (unless it is a specialized tray). There are also an assortment of fillers that allow you to fill in gaps that can be formed between and around trays. Careful preplanning and organization will allow for the best utilization of space and the need for the least amount of these fillers.Tray Sizes: 2x2in (5.08x5.08cm) - 6x8in (15.24x20.32cm) by 1in (2.54cm) incrementsSpecialty Trays: Chapstick Tray (1x1in), USB Tray (1x1in), Phone Tray (4x8in), Cord Holes, Large & Small Pen Holders (1x1in), Coaster Holder(1x4in), Headphone Tray (3x3in), Zippo Tray (2x3in)Fillers: 1x1in, 1x2in, 1x3in, 1x4in, 1x5in, 1x6in, 2x2inSolid Trays: 1x2in, 1x3in, 1x4in, 1x5in, 1x6in, 1x8in, 2x2in, 3x3in, 4x4in, 5x5in, 6x6in, 4x8inNote: Boxes can be constructed using the WallsThis system is also able to be mounted to a wall as well using the “1in Wall Mount” (located in Joints>Wall>1in Wall Mount). It is important to screw into studs or use wall anchors when mounting a system that will be holding a decent amount of weight. If mounting trays to the wall as well I would advise using the “Wall to Tray” Pieces to support the trays properly.Shelf Widths: 2in, 3in, 4in, 5in, 6inShelf Lengths: Short = 2in, Medium = 3in, Long = 4in or 5in, Extra Long = 6inFillers: 1x1in, 1x2in, 1x3in, 1x4in, 1x5in, 1x6in, 2x2in, 2x4in, 3x3in, 4x4inSpecialty Shelves: Tablet-Phone Shelf With Cord Slot, Tablet-Phone Shelf, Cord Hole, Headphone Hook, Wall to Tray, Horizontal Phone Shelf, Vertical Phone Shelf, HookMany of the shelves, such as the “Tablet-Phone Shelf” of "Headphone Hook" are much smaller than need be. This is done with the intention that the space can be expanded with more shelves and fillers to properly customize the shelf or hook.If you are in need of a much sturdier shelf it is worth using the “Wall to Tray” inserts along with the solid trays. These can even be used to make corner shelves using two of the “Wall to Tray” inserts and a “Wall to Wall Turn”. The “Wall to Tray” inserts have holes specifically intended for use in mounting shelves.
