Modular Bubble Bracelet

Modular Bubble Bracelet

I'm kicking off Awesome August with an awesome bracelet. This thing has got a lot going on, despite looking like an ordinary wristband at first glance. Take a closer look - those holes are precisely the right size to pop in an LED. Where does the power come from? I embedded a coin cell battery into one of the modular pieces, which is cleverly hidden within. Memory wire connects everything together perfectly, giving it a great springy feel. Assembling this bracelet was tougher than I expected and ended up being a whole weekend project. Figuring out how to connect the different parts was the trickiest part - I tried everything from string to stranded wire, magnets, even conductive thread. In the end, memory wire worked out great, although I'm still not entirely happy with the on/off functionality or the way the two ends join together. I hear you can buy special endcaps that would solve those problems. Now that I've experimented with various materials and ideas, building these bracelets is relatively easy and they work well. I'd love to see people rocking out with Makerbot-made accessories!
