modular boken sword umbrella handle NEW blade!
thingiverse
A versatile prop for cosplayers: a detachable sword hilt designed specifically to transform umbrellas into mock katanas. Inspired by an affordable yet fragile samurai-style umbrella purchased for my son, I engineered this sturdy handle to withstand regular use. For construction, print at least three middle segments and one cap unit. Each section measures 50mm in length and fits snugly over the umbrella's shaft. Note that separate printing files are provided for individual components. The kit includes a tsuba, a traditional Japanese sword guard, although it hasn't been printed myself. For customizing your mock katana, use the Wolverine Claw template; add multiple claw units as desired to achieve your preferred length. Assembling your prop: 1. Remove or grind off the existing umbrella handle. Golf umbrellas with their larger diameter shafts work exceptionally well. 2. Measure the shaft's circumference by calculating its diameter (remember: radius equals half of the diameter). Update this measurement in the 3D printing file. For best results, use black PLA material and set print settings to at least two perimeters and a fill density of 15%. Next: - Print one cap piece - Print one end piece - Produce multiple middle segments as needed - Create one tsuba unit (separately printed or purchased) Once the components are ready, assemble your mock katana in this order: Attach the Tsuba to the umbrella shaft first; then slide on the end piece. Consider using super glue or epoxy for added security. Add the middle sections and cap segment; be sure to securely bond them with adhesive. To add a finishing touch, wrap tape or ribbon around your sword hilt.
