This version will not be updated anymore. If you want the most recent version, check version 4 out here: https://www.printables.com/model/343896-playable-3-string-ukulele-like-instrument-v4Update: Added a quick fix for all 10 bodies.Quick update: Fixed model U (ukulele style body) to not require internal supports. This is a new version of my 3 string instrument. The core model had many changes so this is incompatible with the old version. What is this? A 3 string instrument that functions like a guitar, balalaika, ukulele, or anything else you want. There is no rules on how to play. You will only need to print two parts. The neck and body. The body and neck are held together with two bolts. One bolt holds the neck, and the other helps stabilize it and should help with adjusting string action (string height). You can use ukulele or nylon strings. Metal strings should work, but you may have to modify the instrument files. A .step file will be included. How do you assemble this? You attach the neck and body together and side down a 3mm x 300mm steel rod down the front of the neck into the body down near the sound hole. A bolt can be used on the back to hold the rod in place, depending on tolerances. Two bolts go into the neck. You will need two 3m bolts and one 4m bolt. I don't remember which size. For attaching the geared tuning pegs, I recommend using a small Philips screwdriver to make screw holes. I recommend you attach one geared tuner at a time followed by putting the string on. Do this for each of the 3 geared tuners, but save the middle one for last. How should I tune this? Tune it however you like, depending on string gauge. I have mine tuned to C, E ,G (open c) with C being the lowest note. You could also tune this like a Balalaika where its E, E, and A. Both E strings would be the same. You could tune it as D, A ,D or like a ukulele minus one string. There are no rules on how to tune this. How do I play this? However you like. I strum mine like a ukulele, minus one string. I'll include a example chord chart for open C, but there are no rules. Play however you want. I hope you print this and feel free to remix it as much as you want. Enjoy.Coming soon: Some, if not all the bodies from the original version. Also, I plan on updating the original necks, and include a violin style neck. Again, no rules. Have a good day.
