Modular 28mm Scifi Building Components
thingiverse
I'm looking to create some custom buildings for Infinity that will replace the cardboard ones included in the starter sets. I want these new buildings to have interesting geometric shapes, windows, doors, and support for multiple floors with ladders, catwalks, and a roof cover. These buildings need to be modular because my mini printer can only print objects up to 4.5 inches in any dimension. They are designed to scale for 28mm miniatures on the 25.4mm tile scale. I've chosen not to use OpenLock or existing sets as they seem more suited for dungeon crawlers than wargames. I need help getting some prints done and finding any issues before proceeding further. My printer is slow, and I'm still learning, so any assistance will be greatly appreciated. The faster we can get these standardized, the sooner we can focus on making more beautiful decorations. Here's how to use them: Simply print the floors and walls you want to use along with the necessary pegs to assemble them. I'm still dealing with print tolerance issues, but it seems that not all three pegs are needed on every edge from my experience. You may choose to skip the floor if you don't care about it or prefer not to have a ceiling. A basic building uses wall segments and floors for the main level. The second level uses the same pegs to lock into the walls below it, while half-walls act as borders to make the ceiling playable. There are ladders and catwalks available if you're interested. No glue is required; simply mix and match the pieces to see how they turn out! I designed these buildings to print with one surface undecorated (the interior) so that they wouldn't need supports. You may want to add supports for the corner pieces, which are too small to have holes on every side. Known Issues: * Some test pieces printed where the interior of the wall peeled up due to peeling issues specific to my printer. * I'm still figuring out the right print tolerances for the pegs (currently 4.95mm) and holes (5.0mm). Part of this is due to "sagging" in the holes, likely caused by my printer issues. Update Log: *2017/10/12: First post
