Modified X carriage for Hypercube using carbon fiber X axis and RJMP-01-08 plastic linear bearings
thingiverse
If you decide to use carbon fiber rods for Hypercube X axis, don't forget that plastic bearings are required, necessitating modifications to the X-carriage. For this purpose, widely available RJMP-01-08 bearings can be used - they're about $1.50 apiece and can be found at http://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/rf2fMJQ. To make these larger bearings fit, some dimensional parameters need to be adjusted accordingly. Additionally, a looser fit is necessary since a tight fit causes the bearing to deform; this issue was resolved by incorporating 4 circular guides that snap the bearings into place and hold them securely. The V2 version of this design uses hidden nuts instead of brass inserts, which makes it more stable and easier to print. To secure the belt clamps, you'll need 6 longer M3 screws (20 or 25mm). The sides were also reinforced for added stability.
