Modified Top Deck for Quanum 180 Quadcopter

The Quanum "Outlaw" 180 quadcopter is a high-performance drone supplied with 5" props (5030) and a carbon-fiber frame. However, the design includes a crucial flaw - the blade rotation circumference extends into the frame area. In response to this issue, the back section of the top frame deck has been modified by cutting away the deck material. The front part of the frame deck remains intact, but in high lift-thrust situations, the blades will strike the deck. Most fliers opt for smaller 4" props to avoid this problem, and the quad still performs exceptionally well. However, I wanted to experiment with the 5" props as intended by Quanum, unleashing maximum power from this rig. To achieve this, I redesigned the top deck, incorporating several features that address cable-routing issues associated with large blade sizes. This design offers three fixed camera-tilt positions, whereas the original carbon-fiber frame allowed for continuous angle adjustment. I may rectify this limitation in a future update. The new deck completely replaces the original top deck and weighs only a couple of grams more, which is negligible considering the increased power from 5" props. Following flight tests with various battery sizes (3S 1000 to 1500 mAh), I made several modifications to enhance performance. For wider batteries, I recommend placing the strap around the deck rather than through the built-in slot. One hole in the back is reserved for attaching a video TX mount, which I will describe in a separate post. The deck is printed in light blue for reference purposes and demonstrates optimal placement and power cable routing techniques. Additionally, it showcases a camera clip and video TX mount that will be explained in future posts. **Print Settings** * Printer: PolyPrinter 229 * Rafts: Not necessary * Supports: None required * Resolution: 0.20 mm (optimized for this resolution) * Infill: 20% * Notes: Other resolutions can be used, but 0.20 mm is recommended.
