Modified Thorped Style Fan Shroud
thingiverse
This is a remix of the Thorped fan shroud and quasibrains mount for the Maker Select.\nOriginal sources can be found here:\nShroud - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1246425\nv2.1 Mount - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1904493\nI've tried all of the major MS shrouds out there, including the DiiCooler and Cobra, but I liked the Thorped fan best.\nThe problem with the Thorped fan is that it moves too much when secured by a single screw.\nMy v2 Maker Select has non-threaded holes at the top of the bearing block, which limited me to using only the bottom hole.\nThis allowed the fan to rotate slightly, sometimes hitting the print.\nTo solve this issue, I extended the quasibrains mount to cover both screws on the bottom of the block.\nThe revised mount still fits around the top of the bearing block and retains the top holes for future use.\nI also adjusted the shroud's position, moving it slightly to the right from the front and upward.\nThis change improved the fan's alignment with my print nozzle and reduced its proximity to the print area.\nAs a result, I moved the fan to the right as well to maintain proper alignment.\nThe wider bearing block mount covered one of the mounting screws, forcing me to spread out the holes.\nUnfortunately, this alteration made the original shroud incompatible without modifying it.\nTo fix this, I widened the mounts on the shroud itself, the only change I made to that component.\nI printed this remix in ABS using a 225-degree hotend and 90-degree bed on my Maker Select with an enclosure.\nThe print settings were: .2mm layer height, 4 perimeter shells, 4 top/bottom layers, and 20% infill.\nMy previous PLA-printed shroud melted under the high temperature conditions, drooping into the bed during a print job.\nIf you plan to use higher-temperature materials like ABS or PETG, I recommend printing this remix in those materials or removing it during prints if using PLA.\nThe quasibrains mount is convenient since it allows the fan to be rotated out of its holder without unscrewing it, making it easier to access the mounting screws for removal.\nPrint Settings:\nPrinter Brand: Wanhao\nPrinter Model: Wanhao Duplicator i3 V2\nRafts: No\nSupports: No\nResolution: .2mm\nInfill: 20%\nNotes:
