Modified stand for animal skulls (Mammoth skull, Bison latifrons, etc.)
thingiverse
I've been printing a group of Pleistocene animal skulls as gifts and I needed to use the same stand for each one. So, I took the improved saber-toothed cat stand by TheZork and created an adapter that fits over the end and allows it to connect to other skulls that hang at a steep angle. I used this adapter on both the Bison latifrons skull posted by jkhuang, which was printed at 8%, and the woolly mammoth skull by austinkbutler, which was printed at 100%. The adapter fits with friction over the top of the existing stand and can be attached to either of these skulls (and many others) with two small incisions made with an X-acto blade or a dab of super glue or hot glue. I set it up so that you can print the stand and the adapter separately and attach them after the fact, or you can print a combined version. Both work well. The combined version doesn't require supports, but if you print the adapter, you need to print it upside down with supports.
