Modified Płaczkowski Clamp for Dwarf II
thingiverse
This is a remix/tweaking of Andrzej Płaczkowski's EXCELLENT clamp to repair/reinforce the base on the Dwarf II telescope. If you didn't know, the early production runs had a weakness that allowed the bottom/center part of the base (which is where a tripod screws in) to detach from the rest of the telescope. You will need two M4 bolts, about 20mm long; two M4 nuts; and I'd recommend four washers as well. You could probably get by with M3 hardware if you needed to. My apologies, you'll probably have to ream out the bolt holes a little with a screwdriver or bolt or something. I printed these in PLA, 15% infill, 0.15 layer height. Only the Manfrotto piece needs supports. These settings seem to work fine, but I am always open to suggestions! You will need one of the following groups of STL files to make a complete clamp: A) The 0MLV6BA7bV0.stl file AND the Right Manfrotto Płaczkowski Clamp Dwarf II.stl file; or, B) The 0MLV6BA7bV0.stl file AND the Right Arca Swiss Płaczkowski Clamp Dwarf II.stl file If you are NOT going to use a Manfrotto Quick Release plate, then I'd recommend using the ArcaSwiss for all other mounts; the Manfrotto one needs to be printed with supports, and is a little weaker. Tweaks I made to the original include: - Small tabs on top to hold the two halves of the base together better - Elongation and cut-out to allow for insertion/removal of a USB-C charging cable without having to remove the clamp - Thickened the base plate by 1mm - Larger cut-out at the bottom to allow for PU50 (50mm long) quick release plates - Small channel for the charging cord under the screw hole, so it can be set down on a table and sit flat without having to remove the clamp or the cable. ALWAYS happy to take questions, suggestions, etc. via the Comments section. This object was made in Tinkercad. Edit it online https://www.tinkercad.com/things/0MLV6BA7bV0
