Modified Original Prusa Mk3 Y-Rod Holder

When I first laid eyes on cable ties securing the Y rods of my Prusa i2 mk3, something about it didn't sit right with me. At that time, I opted to leave them as they were. Yesterday, however, a faint but strange sound caught my attention coming from the printer. Upon investigation, I discovered that the Y rods were not securely fastened in their housings. These holders and ties, I realized, were not designed to keep the rods firmly in place. If left unchecked, the rods could potentially work themselves loose from their housings. I decided it was time to take action and investigate further. A quick analysis using Fusion 360 led me to create these modified holders. They offer improved holding power thanks to their unique geometry, which utilizes the same type of cable ties. Unfortunately, there's a small gap between the rods and the upper plate base, forcing me to incorporate additional cable ties into my design. After swapping out the old holders for the new ones, I'm thrilled with the results I've achieved. A few assembly tips are worth noting: before fastening the holders in place on the chassis, make sure to secure their cable ties first. Inserting the ties after the fact can be a challenge due to their open-bottomed design. To maximize holding force on the rods, position the heads of the ties as shown in the accompanying photos. Next, push the rods into the holders and listen for that reassuring click - it's your cue that they're securely seated. Once the M3 bolts are tightened, use pliers to tighten the cable ties while pressing their heads against the holder. With these simple steps, you'll be well on your way to a smooth and trouble-free printing experience.
