Modified Myford Lathe Carriage Lock
thingiverse
This is a remix of MrMadjak's Myford Carriage Lock (3925010) from October 19, 2019 The redesign mainly involved thickening of the hex socket area and a redesign of the Cap along with a few other minor changes. There are 3 files suppled, Nut, Cap & Handle. Nut - is purely a test piece to allow for the correct sizing of the main pieces to ensure a snug fit for the carriage lock bolt. I highly recommend printing this part separately and checking the fit onto the bolt head. With a bit of trial and error you will be able to scale the part 2 or 3 % larger or smaller, allowing you to adjust for print material shrinkage and slicer variances, ensuring a perfect fit. Once you have a snug fit load both the Handle and Cap into your slicer and rescale both parts to the same % as you used for the successful nut (test piece) Be careful when assembling the Cap piece in the top of the handle, the thicker lipped section must face forward and away from the handle. For strength I chose to print the Handle on its side, the Myford Logo should appear upside down (see photos) and the Cap should be printed with the domed top on the build plate. This will ensure the handle and socket section have better sheer strength when being used to tighten and loosen the carriage. Using 1.6mm walls ensures that the socket area is fully solid with no infill, this should help reduce the possibility of breakout however the bottom of the socket section could be sleeved with a brass or copper collar if so desired. Hope you enjoy and a shout out to MrMadjak for the original.
